High energy laser delivery through optical fiber 

The LightPanther is a fiber-based laser transmission system designed to deliver high-energy nanosecond pulses at the tip of a standard silica fiber. It enables the deployment of high-energy laser processes by decoupling the laser source from the processing location, while preserving pulse energy and duration. 

Industrial challenge 

High-energy laser processes remain difficult to deploy in industrial environments when they rely on conventional free-space beam delivery. These setups typically require Class IV lasers, dedicated installations, and the positioning or disassembly of parts before treatment. This limits flexibility for maintenance, in-situ operations, and use in constrained environments.  

Fiber-based breakthrough 

Our system enables the transmission of high-energy nanosecond laser pulses through optical fibers using a dedicated beam-shaping architecture. This approach reduces the spatial coherence of the laser beam and limits intensity peaks at the fiber input, enabling high-energy coupling into fibers. Peak powers exceeding 60 MW have been demonstrated in the nanosecond regime.  

Core capabilities 

The LightPanther provides features designed for high-energy pulsed laser delivery: 

  • High-energy transmission up to hundreds of mJ per pulse 
  • Pulse duration around 6 ns 
  • Fiber length up to 60 m 
  • Standard single-core silica fibers 
  • Output beam shaping options such as circular, square or linear profiles  
  • Stable top-hat intensity profile at the fiber output 

The system can be used in both fixed and mobile configurations, including handheld or robot-arm operation. 

Monitoring and control 

Our solution includes a dedicated software environment for controlled and reliable operation. Main functionalities include: 

  • Real-time monitoring of the fiber input facet 
  • Automatic interruption of lasing in case of detected fiber damage 
  • Energy control and operation modes such as single-shot, continuous and burst 
  • Assisted fiber alignment and replacement by the user
